This Asian artifact is a hand-carved mask made from rosewood with the eyes inlaid with glass, an elaborate headdress with dragons and flowers and a long-toothed comb to the top. This piece is dated from late 1900's AD and its dimensions are 12" x 8".

Asia is an extremely complex mosaic of intertwined cultures – some going back into the mists of time. If we look close enough, we do find that these ancient cultures have left their mark in subtle ways on existing Asian population. During the Bronze Age, S.E. Asia was a centre for sea trade used by China, Thailand, Java, India, the Persian Gulf and Egypt, creating a melting pot of cultures, forcing the native culture of the area to assimilate. Changes from Hindu to Buddhist and them to Islam and Christianity have not always been peaceful.  Overtime Asian art has portrayed a mesh of cultures and gives a sense of intrigue into a variety of other worlds.
