Each country in Africa has its own uniqueness when it comes to art. Long before history was recorded art has been a part of life. Some of the earliest known sculptures made are from 500BC and are from the Nok culture of Nigeria. Ancient Egyptian artifacts and indigenous southern crafts have also been an influence in African Art. In the Sahara Niger preserves 6000 year old rock art carvings. Much of the art depicts abstract interpretations of animals, plant life and the abundance of surrounding nature.  Some of the most notable advancements in art include bronze work, terracotta’s, metalwork and brass castings often ornamented with ivory and precious stones. There has also been an emphasis on human figures, visual abstraction, sculptures and performance art. Admire the beauty imbedded in each piece full of history & culture!
